We suspect that our introduction into the 'world of longhorns' is not much different than most.
We had long admired the regal, survivalist persona that the longhorns project... so, on our initial tour
of a longhorn ranch, we became proud owners of a 'starter herd of horns.' It didn't take long for us to know that purchasing these intelligent and attention-loving cattle would be one of our wise decisions thus far in life.
We experience with 'regular cattle' and the problems that often occur. However, we soon found that the Texas Longhorns didn't know about things like calving big problem babies, first-time cows not nursing, and being hard to handle around the corrals. We have learned to be cautious when you are among them, as one is likely to be following you... waiting for a scratch on the head or a bite of corn or their favorite... range pellets!
Establishing our goals for herd growth was important, yet simple to achieve. Graceful, elegant horns... eye-catching color and pattern... and that special user-friendly kindness and instinctive attitude.
As Texas Longhorn Cattle owners and breeders, the most important aspect is improving the quality of your herd. The use of artificial insemination [AI] makes your mapping of genetic improvement quite easy. Quarter Ridge Longhorns strives to produce cattle which exemplifies the best of the Longhorn breed.
